BLINKERED

BLINKERED is a six look collection created from unwanted textiles that have been revived and re-imagined through a combination of techniques such as dying, printing and hand embroidery. The collection is inspired by Wabi Sabi, an ancient Japanese aesthetic approach that can be defined as embracing beauty within imperfection. The values of this approach offer a new outlook on the way that consumers view their possessions; one that discourages mass consumption and waste production and encourages acts of repair and revival. Madeleine approached each piece with this mindset and incorporated Japanese techiques associated with Wabi Sabi such as Kintsugi, Sashiko embroidery and Boro patchwork to embellish each piece. Through adopting this mindset and the techniques associated with it, Madeleine seeks to showcase an alternative approach to clothing production and consumption that is better for our planet and the people living on it.

Madeleine also took inspiration from leather headgear such as horse blinkers and falconry masks. These objects serve to control and manipulate their wearers and provide a visual representation of the way that the media can misrepresent the consequences of overconsumption for monetary gain.
